The advantages of school/work based learning activities, allows the student to explore and develop their skills in the security of the classroom before they go to a more centralized work-study site, with a job coach.
Students have a chance to learn to work with others, as in our SOUP~HERBS program, and to follow directions, complete tasks, being part of a team, the list goes on. Students develop skills in communication, confidence, appropriate work habits and positive work attitudes. Students in their third and fourth year at JCB attend the Vocational Education Program (CITI) located at SUNY Oswego. This is a half day work-study program that offers the opportunity for students to experience their first job under the supervision of a job coach. Jobs vary on campus and students are also engaged in the in house ceramic studio.
